Readers Respond: Who would make Team Canada if you were picking the Olympic roster?

It's easy to agree on guys like Sidney Crosby and Rick Nash. But there are plenty of players "on the bubble" as Canada sizes up the candidates for the 2010 Olympic men's hockey team. Has Dion Phaneuf got his game back? Is Vincent Lecavalier still worthy? How many Staal brothers would you take? Is there room for Marc Savard? Let's hear your picks. Who's overrated? Who's been overlooked? Who do you think deserves a spot on Team Canada?

Has anyone seen Stamkos

Stamkos and Marty St. Louis should...Need to be on this team. I hope there will be spots opening up and they should be inserted. If they were shown, on a regular basis, around the continent there would be no doubt! Superior in crunch time and goal scorers. Honorable mention: Vinny Lecavalier (somewhat a down year, but is playing his heart out every shift)

My picks for Team Canada

You have got to be kidding me that you would put Bendan Morrow on a team before Martin St. Louis and Vincent LeCavalier? 2 forward omission there i don't like! Also i would take Marc Savard before some of the guys you have on there but hey, i hope we don't have trouble Scoring!!! I think St. Louis, LeCavalier and Marc Savard are better offensively than Marleau, Morrow, Richards, Bergeron, and Toews! Also team Canada is stupid for take the old and slow beast that is Pronger on the ice! All the European speedster's will walk around him! Pronger will spend more time in the penalty box than he will on the ice!!! You need more younger speed, endurance and toughness like Dion Phanuef!!!!! You can't have more than one veteran Defensman like Niedermyer!! Pronger should be cut!!!!! Dion Phaneuf In!!! You've got to be kidding me Steve Yzerman!!!???

Why not Jordan Stall instead of Eric???

Jordan stall is probably the best penalty killler in the nhl. and he can also score. Eric has had a bad season and stats arent there either.

Decent picks

It is a good team but not picking Mike Green was a mistake because he can score and you could put him on with another defensive defenceman.

Goalies

I agree completely with this line-up except for the goalies. I think that Cam Ward was a better choice for third, and Fleury should have been second. Luongo is an older player with consistency problems, and a higher save %. Ward has recovered well from his knee injury well, the main reason for his poor record, and lacks the GAA only because his team is frankly abysmal lately.

Doughty really?

Derek Roy instead of bergeron and tyler myers instead of doughty

TYLER MYERS

Tyler Myers should have made it. Just because he's a 19-year-old rookie Defenceman doesn't mean he;s not the best D-man in the NHL

a better canada roster

Goalies: R. Luongo (starter), M. Brodeur, M.-Andre Fleury. Defense: S. Niedermayer, C.Pronger, M. Green, J. Bouwmeester, D. Keith, S. Weber, S. Souray. Forwards: S. Crosby, D. Heatley, J. Iginla, J. Thornton, R. Nash, M. St Louis, E. Staal, R. Getzlaf, C. Perry, J. Toews, M. Fisher, M. Richards, V. Lecavalier.

2010 canada lineup

i think that the 3 goalies chosen were the correct 3. the defense should have been: Green, Doughty, weber, pronger, keith, and then phaneuf or bouwmeester. forwards: Crosby, Nash, Iginla, thornton, marleau, toews, getzlaf, perry, richards (brad) cammelari, fisher, richards (mike). i think this would be a much stronger team as most of these guys have different skill sets and all of these guys have had some sort of experience either world juniors previous olympics or stanley cup playoffs. plus most of these guys are young and fast skaters with the defense being a nice balance of tough D and good puck movers. and obviously brodeur is the bread and butter in net with fleury backing him up especially after his surprisingly good play in the playoffs last year and clutch goaltending in the finals i think hes starting to mature into a good goalie.

were is the "D"

Who picked Doughty. No offence to him, but there are alot more plyers better than him and have a blend of "D" and offence, like, hmmmm, I dunno...... DION PHANEUF!

Don't Play Luongo

There is no reason at all for Luongo to be on this team. His stat's aren't there, he has no hardware and he has a reputaion of collapsing in big games. He has been in the league for 10 years with two abyssmal playoff performances and is more divisive than prima donnas like Thornton. Giguere, Ward, Mason, Price would have been better 3rd's.
—Guest no hype here

team canada

I can't understand how Brad Richards could be overlooked for this team. He is the second highest scoring canadian in the nhl and played as good as any forward at the 2006 games. Get with it stevie y. Do you want to win this thing or not.

team canada

My picks would be Phaneuf, Bouwmeester, Lecavalier, St. Louis, Stamkos.....

Green should have been picked

I don't know what Stevie Y was thinking in overseeing Mike Green...He is the leading scorer among defensemen so far this year! He would be perfect on the top PP def. unit along with either Scotty N or Boyle. However, whats done is done and overall...the team looks good. Here are my picks for the 2010 team: (S=Starter, A=Alternate) Goalies: Martin Brodeur-S, Roberto Luongo, Marc-Andre Fleury. Defense: Mike Green, Dan Boyle, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook - A, Drew Doughty, Scott Neidermeyer, Chris Pronger. Forwards: Rick Nash-Sidney Crosby-Jarome Iginla. Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry-Steve Stamkos. Patrick Marleau-Joe Thornton-D. Heatley. Mike Richards-Jon Toews-P. Bergeron. Extra - Brendan Morrow.

A few changes

Most of what I see on the Canadian roster is looking good...however, given past blunders here are the changes I would make. First, I like bringing in a two way forward like Bergeron, but I'm not sure he would be my pick. Maybe Jordan Staal? Second, most of the team seems to be geared at scoring players with a strong defensive side. I like this approach by Yzerman, but maybe a bit too careful. Morrow seems to be a weak link and Toews has not been the solid player he was through much of last year. Perhaps St. Louis or some more heart players like Doan or Ryan Smyth(although injury has left them questionable). Finding the right captain is often important to this team and I feel that Niedermayer is the more obvious choice. Iginla is also a great choice but I feel he needs to focus on his game. This is also true for Mike Richards and Marleau who have improved without that pressure. Brodeur is still the guy for now but Luongo is a stable back up plan. No excuses. Gold or bust!
