By Jamie Fitzpatrick, About.com

Question: Can the goalie cross the centre line with the puck?

Answer: A goalkeeper is restricted to his half of the rink. He is not allowed to cross the centre ice red line, with or without the puck. Another restriction, introduced in 2005: A goaltender cannot touch the puck behind his own goal line, except in a clearly marked trapezoid area behind his net.
