Tournament Format: The 2006 Olympic Winter Games Women's hockey tournament included eight teams divided into two groups. In the preliminary round, teams played each other once within their group. The top two teams from each group advanced to the playoff round, which consisted of two semifinals leading to the bronze and gold medal games.
