    Tournament Format and Background:

    The 2005 World Women's Hockey Championship is being played in Linkoping and Norrkoping, Sweden. This is the ninth world women's hockey championship. Canada has won every previous tournament, with the USA finishing second each time. The eight teams split into two groups and play preliminary round games within the group, for a total of three games each. The top two teams in each group advance to the medal round on Friday and Saturday.
