Empty Net Goal

By Jamie Fitzpatrick, About.com

Definition: A goal scored into a net left undefended because the goaltender is sitting on the bench. This usually happens late in a game, when a team has pulled the goalie for an extra attacker, desperately seeking a goal. Empty net goals are not counted when calculating a goaltender's save percentage or goals against average.
