Definition: An international tournament organized by the NHL and NHL Players' Association. Because it is held in September, prior to the NHL season, it is one of the few events that can bring together the best hockey players in the world. Unlike other world tournaments, the World Cup is not held on a regular schedule, but only when the NHL, the NHL Players' Association and various international federations can agree to a schedule.
