September 30 -

The Boston Bruins have one more defenseman under contract, after signing Nick Boynton to a two-year deal. Boynton had 24 points and led the team in ice time last season. Another top Bruins' defenseman, Brian Berard, is still without a contract.

September 29 -

The Buffalo Sabres have sidestepped a public relations fiasco by getting their top scorer under contract. Miroslav Satan has signed a two-year contract. TSN.ca reports that the deal is worth $10-million. Satan earned $3.55-million last season, recording 26 goals and 49 assists. He has scored over 60 points for five consecutive seasons.

September 24 -

Jay McKee is a late but welcome arrival at the Buffalo Sabres training camp after signing a two-year contract, with a team option for a third season. The 26-year-old defenceman, 26, is going into his eighth season with the Sabres.

September 18 -

The starting goaltender is back with the Dallas Stars. Marty Turco, missing since training camp began, has agreed to a three-year contract. The Associated Press reports the deal is worth $12-million. It's a huge raise from the $850,000 he made last season, when he set a modern NHL record with a 1.72 goals-against average and led the team to first place in the Western Conference.

September 14 -

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Petr Sykora have a greed on a three-year, $12-million contract. The 26-year-old right wing led Anaheim with 34 goals last season and tied for the team lead with 13 playoff points.

September 11 -

The Boston Bruins have come to terms with left winger Sergei Samsonov on a one-year contract. Samsonov, 24, had eight points in 11 games last year, missing the rest of the regular season with a wrist injury. The two years prior to that he recorded 70 and 75 points.

The Nashville Predators have a new contract with leading scorer David Legwand. Legwand set career highs last season with 48 points in 64 games, including 17 goals and 31 assists. He broke his collarbone on March 1 and missed the rest of the season.

Other Restricted free agents re-signing this week:
- Center Jan Hrdina of the Phoenix Coyotes
- Defenseman Mike Commodore of the Calgary Flames. - Forwards Ethen Moreau and Georges Laraque of the Edmonton Oilers.
- Winger Ramzi Abid of the Pittsburgh Penguins. - Defenseman Rhett Warrener of the Calgary Flames.

September 10 -

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks have locked up last spring's best player. Goaltender Jean-Sebastian Giguere has signed a four-year deal. Canadian Press says the contract is worth a reported $19.5-million. Giguere won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the 2003 playoff MVP, leading the Ducks to game seven of the Stanley Cup Final. He established the longest playoff overtime shutout streak in NHL history (168:27), and set another record for fewest goals allowed in a best-of-seven series (one in four games against Minnesota).

September 6 -

With the signing of left winger Alex Tanguay, the Colorado Avalanche have all players under contract for the coming season. Tanguay, 23, signed to a one-year contract. He had 26 goals and 41 assists last season.

September 5 -

The Montreal Canadiens have their captain under contract for two years. TSN.ca reports that Saku Koivu will earn $4.25 million and $4.5 million under the deal. Koivu, 28, led the team in scoring last season with 21 goals and 50 assists.

September 4 -

Restricted free agents re-signing this week:
- Forward Nik Antropov of the Toronto Maple Leafs
- Defenseman Boris Mironov of the New York Rangers
- Left winger Kristian Huselius of the Florida Panthers
- Center Josef Vasicek of the Carolina Hurricanes
