"The buzz is like nothing I've ever seen."
- NBC's Bob Costas
Costas is no impartial observer: as host of the broadcast, what else would you expect him to say?
But the buzz is undeniable. Since its introduction two years ago, the annual Winter Classic has evolved into one of the NHL's great success stories.
It's won over the cynical media herd, and even has some calling it a new tradition on New Year's Day.
Given today's setting, you might call it a home run for the league's marketing department.
The Bruins and Flyers face off at Fenway at 1:00 PM Eastern Time, with network coverage in both Canada (CBC) and the U.S. (NBC).
