The NHL's All Star Game Needs Rory
Over at GlobeSports.com, James Mirtle fills us in on a delightful campaign that could undermine the integrity of the NHL All Star Game, if it had any:
Various internet message boards and blogs have undertaken a campaign to 'write-in' an unlikely candidate to starting the NHL all-star game: Vancouver Canucks defenceman Rory Fitzpatrick...
Fitzpatrick, a journeyman who has played 16 games this season and has zero points, is probably about as unlikely a candidate for the skills showcase as anyone in the league, but so far the webheads have pushed him all the way into 12th spot in voting among Western Conference defencemen.
Not sure how Fitzpatrick feels about all this. But considering that the All Star extravaganza should really be called The Worst Hockey Game Ever Played, Every Year, the Rory backers are to be commended for tweaking the NHL's humorless nose.
