Badger Time in Milwaukee

Saturday April 8, 2006

The Wisconsin Badgers have won the 2006 NCAA men's hockey championship, defeating Boston College 2-1 in Saturday's final game. Wisconsin fell behind 1-0 in the first period, pulled even on a goal by Robbie Earl in the second, and won it on a power play goal by Tom Gilbert midway through the third.

In a heart-stopping finish, Boston College pulled the goalie and came within inches of sending the game into overtime: a deflected shot hit the Wisconsin goal post with 1.2 seconds left on the clock.

It's Wisconsin's sixth national title and the first since 1990, and it came in front of a hometown crowd in Milwaukee.
