No doubt they're having a rare old time - golf, shuffleboard, hot milk at bedtime - at the NHL Board of Governors meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.
It's a good news meeting, reports Al Strachan of the Toronto Sun. Everyone loves the new rules, and they're making more money than projected. The new cable TV deal with OLN is a mess, but it's still cash in pocket, so nobody's losing any sleep over it.
The mood is so giddy these days that commissioner Gary Bettman has even acknowledged that the Pittsburgh Penguins might have to move. In the past, Bettman would never admit that the NHL might die in one of its current locations. But with the good times rolling, the demand for pro hockey might be back on the rise. So now is a good time to put pressure on the city of Pittsburgh and the state of Pennsylvania to cough up taxpayer dollars for a new arena.
