A Tale of Two Salary Caps

Which NHL salary cap do you prefer? The one that saves the low-budget teams? Or the one that destroys the low-budget teams?

That's the current media debate, neatly represented by a couple of stories appearing in Canadian newspapers on the weekend.

"The 301-day lockout is the best thing that happened to Oilers fans since they last won a championship," gushes the Edmonton Sun. "You get a level playing field and a chance to be contenders again."

"Small markets face big trouble," counters the Toronto Star, calling the new collective agreement "potentially disastrous" for nickel-and-dime teams like Edmonton.
