Is the 2005 Memorial Cup Already Over?
On a good night, with very good goaltending, somebody might beat the London Knights. But after three days of the 2005 Memorial Cup tournament, the Knights are well on their way to confirming their reputation as the best junior hockey team in Canada.
Having won their first two games, London is almost certain to finish in first place after round-robin play. That would give them a bye to Sunday's championship game, which means another team has to win Saturday night's semifinal, then face a rested London team less than 24 hours later. A Knights' loss in that situation would be a monumental upset.
So you could say the format favours London. But the Knights have another, more useful advantage: they're better than anyone else.
