Junior Hockey Fans Envision a Clash of Titans
On many evenings, they look like grown men taking advantage of high school kids. Defensive systems, line matching, goon tactics, great goaltending - none of it stops the London Knights. The numbers say the Knights are the best junior hockey team in Canada, probably the best under-20 team anywhere.
The Knights leading scorer is Corey Perry, who in any other season would be a candidate for junior hockey's Player of the Year. But how can anyone keep pace with the boy from Cole Harbour? March was just another month at the office for Sidney Crosby: 10 goals and 21 assists in eight games. That brought him to 168 points on the season.
Crosby's Rimouski Oceanic finished the the regular season unbeaten in 28 games. Perry's London Knights lost just seven times all year. Canada's junior teams are split into three regional leagues, so Rimouski and London do not play each other unless they meet at the 2005 Memorial Cup. The national tournament is held in May, and this year looms as possibly the greatest clash of titans in junior hockey history.
