It's Time for the NHL To Go Away
Having already canceled the 2004-05 season, the NHL continues to humiliate itself in public. An unexpected negotiating session on Saturday raised hopes across the hockey world. But the end result, as always, was abject failure.
"It's 100 per cent certain coming out of today's meeting that nothing could impact the cancellation of the season," Ted Saskin of the Players' Association told reporters when it was over.
The Hockey News led the way in spreading unfounded optimism about a breakthrough: "The NHL season is expected to be 'un-canceled' Saturday in New York," ran a Friday story on its website.
But reports coming out of New York suggest the bungling fools on either side can't even agree on who wanted Saturday's meeting in the first place.
Would everyone connected with this debacle please disappear for a while?
