NHL Lockout Breeds Discontent Across the Hockey World

Thursday November 25, 2004

If you can't get enough of the moaning and whining that has come to characterize the NHL lockout, you should read Bill Guerin's chat with the Toronto Sun and Manny Legace's comments in the Detroit News. But don't expect anything new. Being solid NHLPA guys, their insights can be summarized as "Bettman sucks."

Brett Hull is golfing every day and lowering his handicap. Otherwise he has nothing good to say about anything or anybody in his interview with the Arizona Republic.

On the management side, Kevin Lowe says he will resign as GM of the Edmonton Oilers if the NHL can't get a new economic system. How you feel about his threat likely depends on how you feel about the Oilers' steady decline of recent years.

You would think hockey fans in Europe should be happy, with nearly 300 NHL players moonlighting in the European leagues. But at least one fan in Slovakia says the locked-out fat cats should Go Back to the NHL!

"It’s prettier when they’re on the bench," Jozef Letko tells the Hockey News. "It’s more of a team attack, with better cutting and passing. When they’re on the ice, everything revolves around them.”
