Who's In Your Hockey Hall of Fame?
The Hockey Hall of Fame has made some questionable decisions over the years. Guys like Clark Gillies, Bernie Federko and Michel Goulet are more deserving of a place in the Hockey Hall of Pretty Damn Good Players.
Tonight, the Hall welcomes the blueliners who ruled the 1980s and '90s: Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey and Larry Murphy. At least one writer calls it "the greatest group of defencemen ever seen."
Some question Murphy's inclusion. But a solid argument can be built from his remarkable statistics and the mountains of ice time he logged on four Stanley Cup teams. So the arbiters of greatness appear to have gotten it right in 2004.
Those who enjoy such debates should check out the World Wide Hockey Hall of Fame. A panel of 21 historians revisited a century of the game and came up with a list that excludes nearly half of the players in the "real" Hall, while adding 11 new names, most of them from Europe.
