NHL Lockout Begins at Midnight
As expected, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced today that the league will not play until it has a new collective bargaining agreement with its players. The announcement came following a meeting with the league's Board of Governors.
The move practically guarantees that the 2004-05 NHL season will not begin October 13, as scheduled. With the two sides far apart in negotiations on a new deal, the entire season and Stanley Cup playoffs are in danger of being cancelled.
