A small number of satellite TV subscribers will be choosing their own camera angles and replays as they watch tomorrow night's NHL action. Bell ExpressVu, a Canadian satellite company, will introduce a new interactive service called Hockey Night in Canada Plus.
Subscribers who own compatible receivers can watch the regular broadcast, but will also have access to:
"Alternate-Cam" - Provides an alternate camera angle with a rink-wide view and action from around the net.
"Player-Cam"- Provides isolated coverage of key players.
"Second Look Cam" - Shows the game on a 45-second delay, so any play can be viewed a second time.
Continuous game highlights.
Up-to-the-minute in-game statistics, team information and notes.
“Now that we've got the capability, I'm very confident we will continue to drive the innovation,” ExpressVu president Tim McGee tells the Toronto Globe and Mail.
The paper reports that among ExpressVu subscribers, only about 700,000 own the correct receiver for the interactive broadcast. HNIC Plus will be broadcast free of charge for four weeks, after which it becomes a pay-per-view service.
