Living The NHL Dream... Sort Of

Chris Levesque was at the University of British Columbia library, cramming for a geography exam, when a friend tracked him down yesterday. The Vancouver Canucks were on the phone, looking for a goalie for their game against Pittsburgh. "Yeah, right," figured Chris, a third-string goaltender with the UBC varsity team.

No joke, as it turned out. Canucks' starter Dan Cloutier pulled a groin in the morning skate, so Johan Hedberg took over for the game against the Penguins. But that left the team with no backup. Their minor league goaltenders were all on the east coast, several time zones away. There was no way one of them could make it to Vancouver in time for a 7:08 pm puck drop.

So began the search that ended with Chris Levesque in a Vancouver Canucks uniform for one night.

"All the guys were really friendly, introduced themselves, as if I don't know who they are," he told reporters after the game.

According to Slam Sports, it was straight back home and back to the books after Chris Levesque's brush with the NHL.

The day after his Canucks' debut, Chris told his story to the CBC Radio program As It Happens.
