More Rule Changes Coming For Goaltenders?
"We've been charting in the last month goalies handling the puck and the way it affects the game," Campbell tells columnist Al Strachan, adding that today's young goaltenders are drafted as much for their ability to handle the puck as their ability to stop it.
Judging from the rest of the article, Campbell appears to have a good perspective on today's game. He agrees that the NHL should consider adjustments to speed up the game and enhance its excitement. But he questions some of the complaints from those who are uninformed or deluded by nostalgia.
"What we're trying to understand without knee-jerking it is figure out, what is the problem? Are the masses right? Or are they being affected by (media) culture?"
Strachan points out that Campbell does not have the power to make rules - the league's GMs have to approve all changes. But the article reveals that there is some movement for change within the NHL hierarchy.
