NHL Daily Quick Fix: No Third Period Lead Is Safe

The Vancouver Canucks look pretty good in their old sweaters, and they play a lot better than the guys who wore the team's original "hockey stick" logo back in the 1970s. Vancouver beats Montreal 5-4 in overtime on Vintage Jersey night. The Canadiens don't play much like they did in the seventies, either. But at least they score a late goal to get a point on the road against the best team in the West. Ed Jovanovski has two goals and an assist for the Canucks. Saku Koivu, Richard Zednik and Michael Ryder combine for eight points for Montreal. In other Tuesday games:

• Adam Foote puts the Avalanche ahead with barely five minutes left in the third. Terrible defense by Colorado allows Vaclav Prospal to tie the game for Anaheim less than two minutes later. But Teemu Selanne seals a 2-1 Colorado win with the overtime goal. J.S. Giguere makes 38 saves for the Mighty Ducks.
• The Maple Leafs score late to earn a point in Calgary. But Toni Lydman's overtime goal gives the Flames a badly needed 3-2 win at home. Steve Reinprecht and Jarome Iginla finsih with three points each.
• A good night for Kevin Weekes and the Hurricanes. After spotting Philadelphia a 2-0 lead in the third period, Carolina fights back for a 2-2 tie. Weekes makes 41 saves, including 21 stops in the second period.
• The Rangers take a 2-0 lead in San Jose, but can't make it stick. With two third period goals, San Jose comes back for a 2-2 tie.
• What a revelation Ty Conklin is turning into for Edmonton. The Oilers' back-up goalie stops 33 shots for his 5th win of the season, as Edmonton defeats Chicago 5-2. Conklin had four career NHL games prior to this season.
