Ducks Waddling. Why Are We Surprised?
Saturday October 18, 2003
Every so often, a previously mediocre team makes a spectacular charge to the Stanley Cup Final. A few months later, everyone is shocked when that team returns to its usual, not-so-dominant ways. Which brings us to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. After four games, the Ducks are worse than anyone could have imagined. But we should know by now that eight great weeks does not a dynasty make, even if those eight weeks fall in April, May and June. It's still early. When Sergei Fedorov settles in and someone has a good talk with Sandis Ozolinsh, we will see the real Ducks: a decent team shooting for a number 6-to-8 playoff spot.
