NHL Holds Annual Waiver Draft. Yawn.
Friday October 3, 2003
Today's NHL Waiver Draft produced little of interest, unless names like Jani Hurme, Travis Green and Ronald Petrovicky quicken your pulse. As expected, more prominent players like Curtis Joseph and Brian Boucher went untouched, likely because teams do not want to take on their hefty contracts. If you insist on knowing more, the twenty borderline players who changed teams are listed at NHL.com. For a further look at the day - which also included a couple of trades - check the Waiver Draft analysis at TSN.ca. The Detroit Red Wings must now renew their efforts to trade Joseph. To get a deal done, they will have to pay a considerable chunk of the $16-million he is due over the next two years. Teams will probably want to see him play a couple of games as well.
