Curtis Joseph Arrives! Nothing Happens!

Given the breathless media coverage, you would think he was a condemned man, nervously awaiting a reprieve from the governor. But Curtis Joseph is merely an unwanted goaltender with an $8-million salary, and for a bored media throng weary of training camp, that will do. Cujo joined the Detroit Red Wings for his first practice of the season yesterday. For those who care about the twists and turns of the Red Wings' soap opera ("All My Goalies" someone recently called it), the Detroit News has an eyewitness report. Joseph's attitude seems to be that NHL teams find themselves with unwanted players all the time, and usually find a way to deal with it. Oh, but beneath his calm exterior, the poor dear is surely devastated!
