"They Acted Like Pigs." Or Did They?
Friday September 19, 2003
You can bet the Toronto Maple Leafs will think twice before making another pre-season trip overseas. First there was the Owen Nolan Bad Back Affair, a media relations fiasco that erupted at home while everyone who could have calmed the situation was several thousand miles away. Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca puts Nolan's health situation nicely into perspective. Now, according to Slam Sports, the Swedish media is running with reports that several Leafs enjoyed a night of boozing and chick-groping at a Stockholm nightclub. The Leafs and the NHL say it's a load of nonsense, and the Leafs claim they are considering legal action against a Stockholm newspaper. Team captain Mats Sundin says "It was an ordinary night at a nightclub." But one Swedish girl says, "They acted like pigs. When they asked me to take off my t-shirt and show my breasts, I was disgusted." Sundin is right. For a bunch of hockey players on the road, that sounds like an ordinary night at a nightclub.
