Bure's Knee: "It's Getting Worse"
Thursday September 11, 2003
Pavel Bure's career appears to hang in the balance today. As expected, Bure was declared unable to play following a physical examination, and will not attend the New York Rangers' training camp. Bure's right knee, which has twice undergone surgery, was re-injured during an exhibition game last fall, and he appeared in just 39 games last season. The knee failed to respond to therapy over the summer. "It's going the other way, it's getting worse," he told reporters. "I can't control that. Trainers, doctors, none of us can and I don't know that there is any other special program to try." So what's next? More rehab? More surgery? Or does a 32-year-old, five time 50-plus goal scorer take his leave? For now, no one is saying.
