Sather and Mess: Stuck In The Eighties Together
Saturday September 6, 2003
The will-he-or-won't-he drama finally ended yesterday when superstar-turned-utility-forward Mark Messier signed a new deal with the New York Rangers. The New York Post says The Big Mess will make $3-million this season. TSN.ca reports that Rangers GM Glen Sather hailed Messier as "a champion, a leader and a warrior." Messier had 40 points last season, placing him in the company of legends like Jan Bulis and Sergei Berezin. He needs six points to tie Gordie Howe for second place on the NHL's all-time scoring list.
