Hockey Needs More Fans? Says Who?
Thursday July 10, 2003
The senior writer of The Hockey News isn't much of a comedian. But this whimsical article by Mike Brophy is based on a popular complaint: Lack of interest is a huge problem for the NHL. Brophy says the NHL must be more "creative in trying to get people to watch the sport, particularly in the U.S." Well, that's definitely the agenda if you own or make money from a hockey team. But from a fan's perspective, maybe the NHL would be better off as a cottage industry with modest expectations.
